If you live in a built up area then you will probably have more access to the likes of Internet infrastructure and broadband. Being out in the middle of nowhere is usually going to provide a few challenges so you will need to plan this carefully.

Your clients and your customers need to be sure that they can contact you at all times and therefore your infrastructure’s welfare and connection is the first thing you should consider.

A lot of people mistakenly mistake bandwidth for being the connection speed, but this is not the case. Connection speed is something different. Bandwidth, on the other hand, refers to the range of frequencies through which data is transmitted. The principles of bandwidth are not only limited to the Internet either. 

Television and radio are also going to use the same idea and therefore this is a universal concept when it comes to the transmission of data, whether it happens to be through a digital or analog medium. If you have a very large amount of bandwidth it means that you will be able to transmit a lot more data at the same time. 

As a result, you will end up having a much faster speed and therefore this is where the confusion comes into play. Bandwidth’s measurement is in what is known as hertz (Hz). The bigger measurement is MegaHertz (MHz), which are counted in the millions. If you are going to measure the speed of your connection then you will be measuring it in kbps or mbps. 

Your connection speed is of course important when it comes to implementing VoIP, but you also need to consider the bandwidth and the amount of data that you are able to transfer at a single point in time. The more data that you are able to transfer then the better your quality of sound and picture is going to be.

The simple answer to this is that it depends. It depends on the kind of VoIP system that you are using. There are different levels of bandwidth that you will need to take a look at. One of the first ones is the likes of dial-up Internet, which for a lot of cases is not worth it for VoIP. There is just too little bandwidth for people to be able to use the service.

Instant messaging is about the only service that you can use. If you use ISDN, however, is good for fixed services. Those who want a high connection but do not need mobility will be able to use a cable system. LAN and ETHERNET cables are also quite good, but this will be limited depending on the length of your wire. Wireless technologies can also vary, so you will need to look at the specific package.
